Tea has beneficial flavonoids that can help keep bones strong and antioxidants that can help protect against cancer and, possibly, Alzheimer’s disease. Here’s how to get the most flavonoids out of your brew.
• Use real green or black tea, not instant or bottled. Tea bags work as well as loose-leaf tea.
• Start with fresh, cold water. Bring to a full boil. For black tea, pour over the tea. For green tea, allow to cool about one minute before pouring over leaves, to prevent bitterness.
• Brew 3-5 minutes. Dunking the bag now and then helps.
• Finally, squeeze the tea bag as you remove it, to double the amount of flavonoids in your cup.
